From the rural village of Masaka, Uganda to graduating magna cum laude from Harvard, May Lugemwa's story exemplifies the American Dream. May is a filmmaker, scholar, and mentor passionate about media, and about producing films of substance on pressing issues. Her award-winning documentary Former Nationality screened at festivals worldwide. She is currently producing a video series for the Ron Brown Scholar Program. While getting her MFA in the Producers Program at UCLA, she was a reporter for Daily Bruin TV and a recipient of the Sony-Streisand Fellowship. Aside from her own work, May has mentored and tutored numerous youth over the past 10 years. She lives by the words: "We are all different and we are all alike. What matters, however, is that we are all significant."
